
Mr. Joey Johnston
Mr. Joey Johnston has been training in Shuri-Ryu Karate at the Academy of Okinawan Karate since 1990. He is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Karate, as well as a Brown Belt in Judo. Mr. Johnston was the first double World Champion from The Academy of Okinawan Karate, having won World Titles in both Brown Belt Kids Koshiki (fighting in Armor) and Grappling in 1997. He has also won the Midwest Championship in Kata in both 2003 and 2004.
Mr. Johnston is also one of the most popular Instructors at the Academy of Okinawan Karate.
1990 - Began training at the Academy of Okinawan Karate.
1992 - Earned 3rd Place in Kids kata at the world Championships in New Orleans.
- Voted Most Improved student by the Instructors of the AOK.
1997 - Won World Championship in Kid Koshiki (fighting in armor).
- Won World Championship in Kids Grappling.
2000 - At age 15, becomes the youngest person ever promoted to Sho Dan.
(1st Degree Black Belt) at the AOK.
2002 - Earns Best Kata Competitor Award at the AOK.
- Earns 2nd place in Koshiki at the World Championships.
- Voted Best Instructor by the students of the AOK.
2003 - Wins Black Belt division in Kata at the Midwest Championships.
- Voted Best Instructor for the second time by the students of the AOK.
2004 - Wins Black Belt division in Kata for a second time at the
Midwest Championships.
- Earns 2nd Place in Black Belt Koshiki at the World Championships.
- Promoted to Ni Dan in Karate-Do by Shihan Joseph Walker.
- Voted Best Instructor for the third year by the Students of the AOK.
2005 - Appointed Sensei of the Academy's Eureka Satellite School by Shihan Walker.
2006 - Earned 2nd Place in the prestigious International Shuri Cup Black Belt Kata Tournament
